Emergency at sea: call 196 to reach the coastguard!

In the event of an emergency, please call 196 from any phone or use channel 16 on the VHF

CROSSMED, the regional search and rescue centre, saves some 1300 people from danger every summer in the Mediterranean.

Strong winds, breakdowns and exhaustion can be dangerous. Vigilance and safety are essential at sea and many dangerous situations can be avoided if you follow three simple rules:

  • Check your gear
  • Be realistic about your fitness
  • Check the weather forecast
