Flags on the beach

In France and in Europe, the signposting of swimming areas is now standardised

For safe bathing, it is important to know and respect the signs on the beaches. Each flag has a specific recommendation.

 Flag

Meaning 

 

Supervised swimming without apparent danger

 

Supervised swimming with limited or marked danger

No swimming allowed

Supervised swimming during opening hours of the first aid post

Pollution or presence of dangerous aquatic species, or protected marine or underwater areas

Aquatic and nautical practice area, where bathing is not forbidden but at the risk of the bathers (e.g., surfing)
