“I wish to ensure that all Cannes citizens feel part of Canne’s future and that they become actively involved in it”. With these words Mr. Bernard Brochand, Deputy Mayor of Cannes summed up Cannes Consultative Council’s ambition.
Cannes Consultative Council focuses on dialogue, exchange, contemplation, expertise and recommendation. It brings together volunteer Cannes citizens from various neighbourhoods, of all political backgrounds, all ages and all statuses, appointed by the Mayor for their skills, expertise and experience.
This new consultative body, created one year ago now boasts a dozen consultation groups, working on specific themes and a team of 200 people.
This permanent structure, which is independent, yet closely linked to the Town, organises the consultation process between representatives, civil society and Cannes’ entrepreneurs, to help the public authorities develop local policy and municipal management.
This participative and evaluative tool is also a motor for suggestions, whose essential mission is to form opinions, produce reports on broad issues submitted to it or which it submits to itself, in order to improve the life of Cannes citizens.
The opinions of Cannes Consultative Council remain advisory in nature. They are not binding for the municipality, which remains directed by councillor exclusivity and universal suffrage. But as the councillors originally accepted dialogue by setting up the C.C.C. they have the duty to analyse and listen carefully to the propositions resulting from it and to provide clear answers.
